  1. Six to Eight Weeks before you move.

    1. Working With the Mover

      1. Call your united Van Lines Agent and to discuss your move date and when they can come by to prepare your estimate.

      2. Let your agent know if you company will be paying for your move.

      3. Before your agent arrives, decide what you will be moving and what you will discard.

      4. Decide whether you will do any of the packing. Be prepared to discuss packing services with your agent.

      5. Show our agent everything that will be moved specifying thing that will be packed so the estimate is as accurate as possible.

      6. Make sure you fully understand the extent of the carrier's liability.

      7. Sign the estimate/Order for Service after you are sure you have a clear understanding of each section.

      8. Keep the telephone number and name of the local agents' contact person close at hand. 

    2. Preparing the Family

      1. Explain the reason for the move to your children. Tell them about the advantages of the move.

      2. In Search of a New Residence

      3. Place your home on the market.

      4. Arrange for a house-hunting trip to the new city.

      5. When looking for a new home, take a tape measure and a list of exact dimensions of each of you major appliances and other large furniture.

      6. Establish credit in your new city. Ask your banker to recommend a corresponding bank.

      7. Check personal insurance policies to see whether moving is covered. Transfer fire, theft and other personal property insurance to ensure coverage at your new home.

      8. Packing

      9. Start collecting suitable containers and packing materials if you will be packing yourself.

      10. Set goals and deadline to ensure all packing is completed by moving day.

      11. Separate and mark goods that will be going into storage.

Two to Three Weeks Before Moving Day

Confirm with your agent any extra stops required to pick up or deliver goods.

If you car is being moved, make final arrangements with your agent regarding drop off and pickup points.
